Stronger Together Community Gathering

I was commissioned by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to create a suite of print graphics for the Stronger Together Community Gathering, held in May 2024. The centerpiece of the project was a large-scale timeline infographic designed to visually tell the story of the state’s collective response to the pandemic. Spanning 23 feet across a series of room-divider panels, the timeline needed to communicate a substantial amount of information while remaining engaging and accessible to attendees moving through the space.

I developed a cohesive visual system that balanced clear information hierarchy with bold, approachable design. I chose a bright yet soft color palette to draw attention while remaining sensitive to the emotional weight of the subject matter. The timeline itself was shaped by the curve of the COVID-19 death graph. I chose a map projection that positioned China to the left of the United States, allowing the geographic progression of the early outbreaks to read naturally within the timeline. I also intentionally left open space throughout the timeline for attendees to contribute their own experiences and reflections, turning the installation into a living record of the pandemic.

The event brought together more than 70 organizations and community leaders to reflect on the life-saving work carried out across Massachusetts in response to COVID-19, including Massachusetts Commissioner of Public Health Robert Goldstein. My installation served as both an educational resource and a visual focal point for the event, providing attendees with an opportunity to engage with the collective history of the pandemic and the communities that responded to it.

Special thanks to Quynh Dang for sending me this project and sharing photos from the event with me.
